Virgin River season 6 isn’t coming in 2024, officially confirmed for 2025

We won’t be going back to Virgin River until 2025… sigh…

Bad news, Virgin River fans. The highly-anticipated sixth season

will not be released on Netflix in 2024. According to Deadline,

Virgin River season 6 is just one of the many fan-favorite Netflix shows with new seasons delayed until 2025. The list includes hits like Stranger Things, Wednesday, Ginny & Georgia, Sweet Magnolias, and more.

The confirmation that a handful of Netflix shows won’t be back until 2025 comes on the heels of the streamer’s announcement of their 2024 slate of movies and shows. Although Virgin River and other series weren’t among those featured in Netflix’s reveal, we’d selfishly held out hope that they would be announced further down the road. Well, it’s much further than anticipated.

Obviously, Virgin River doesn’t have demanding post-production and special effects to contend with after production wraps, but the series does have to deal with the unpredictability of the weather in Vancouver as season 6 gears up to start production in Canada this spring. Filming will likely last through summer, which could have set the season up for a fall premiere. That’s cutting it too close, it seems.

Virgin River season 5 release delayed to 2025

In the wake of the dual Hollywood labor strikes in 2023, executive producer and writer Richard Keith stressed that if the strikes weren’t over by the end of the year, season 6 wouldn’t make its premiere until 2025. Well, the strikes did manage to reach a resolution by the end of 2023, but we’re still not going to see season 6 until 2025.

Honestly, fans won’t understand why the show isn’t coming back until 2025, and this fan isn’t too far off. Things take time to create, sure, but if production begins in the spring, it’s unclear why season 6 wouldn’t be able to make its premiere by December at the latest. One of the most valid critiques plaguing streaming television has to do with the amount of time it takes to release new seasons, and here we are again waiting over a year for another show. While, yes, it’s severely disappointing that we won’t be seeing the next chapter for almost a full calendar year at this point, we do have to consider the obstacles that the cast and crews of our favorite shows have had to face. Everything was delayed. But it’s still frustrating when shows are being delayed further on top of the previous delays. Deadline cited the weather as a potential reason for Virgin River’s push to 2025. Let’s hope for only clear skies from here on out!
