Nate Robinson’s (Jurell Carter) murder investigation takes another turn next week in Emmerdale, as DS Walsh arrives with some major news for Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh).
With Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) suspicious, these latest developments lead him to turning detective. He then makes a major discovery about Nate’s murder, and wastes no time in heading to the station to inform the police of the news.
Elsewhere in the village, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) learns a loved one has kept a major secret from him, and it will change everything.
A lot is happening next week, here’s everything you need to know.
Monday, July 21

Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) heads to Owen’s house but is concerned by the lack of response. He calls the police, who then confirm Owen has died.
DS Walsh shows the local GP a written confession on Owen’s laptop, and later tells Cain and Tracy that the note confessed to Nate’s murder.
As Cain and Tracy struggle to process the twist, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) acts suitably shocked when Liam relays the news of Owen’s confession and death. A while later, Robert learns the development regarding Owen, and the coincidence leaves him suspicious about John once more.
Elsewhere, Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) tells Mackenzie about Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) plan to be Sarah Sugden’s (Katie Hill) surrogate. He immediately confronts his partner, but she defends her decision.
Meanwhile, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) is astounded to discover that Pollard has betrayed his trust, but Eric stands his ground, believing that Jacob is making a huge mistake. Sarah wonders if it’s because Eric doesn’t like Charity, but he says it’s because of her shortened life expectancy.
During Mack’s chat with Charity, he’s gutted by her eagerness to carry Sarah’s baby but not his. Later, Sarah worries about the issues this may cause between Charity and Mack, but Charity assures her that she’ll be able to talk her partner round.
Sadly though, Mack then gives Charity an ultimatum – the surrogacy, or their marriage.

John arrives hoping to see an improvement in Cain after the news about Owen, but kicks himself when he realises that Cain is still struggling.
He then heads to see Liam and bombards him with questions about Owen. Liam refuses to breach patient confidentiality, leading to Cain losing his rag with his mate. Later, Liam recounts to John his interaction with Cain and describes the harrowing effect of losing a child. His guilt increasing, John realises Owen’s so-called ‘confession’ has just robbed Cain of getting justice.
That evening, John contacts the mental health helpline and speaks to his usual volunteer, but feels torn when the person on the other end of the line suggests they call rather than message.
Meanwhile, Robert meets with Kim Tate (Claire King) about Annie’s field. He detects desperation from Kim so refuses to sign, leaving her annoyed. Later, Robert heads to the field and tries to figure out why Kim is so interested in that specific land.
Thursday, July 24

At a picnic, Jacob leans in to kiss Sarah but she pulls away before hurrying off. He later apologises to Sarah, who tells him that she loves him, but is worried he’ll get cold feet again. After a chat though, Jacob proposes and Sarah gladly accepts.
Meanwhile, DC Cole arrives at the surgery looking for more information on Owen’s medical history. Spotting Cole at the surgery, Robert attempts to work out what’s going on. When Claudette (Flo Wilson) lets slip that John went to Owen’s house before he died, Robert is buoyed by the new information.
Before long, Robert meets with Owen’s brother, who confirms that Owen had a solid alibi for the date Nate was murdered.
Also, Paddy decides to volunteer for a crisis helpline, and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) heads to Butlers to reiterate Kim’s offer to buy the farm from Moira (Natalie J Robb), who is still stressed about the fines.
Friday, July 25
Moira’s left with a difficult decision to make, but Cain promises to stand by her, whatever she decides.
Eric disapproves of Jacob and Sarah’s engagement – can they talk him round?
Elsewhere, Marlon (Mark Charnock) tells April (Amelia Flanagan) that she should return to college, but she has other plans.
Also, Robert heads to the police station, claiming to have new information about Nate’s murder…
