Coronation Street has just recast a member of the Platt family after the character disappeared in the last few weeks.
The ITV soap is gearing up to air a big storyline involving some of its younger stars, with Lily Platt expected to have a prominent role in it.
The daughter of David Platt and his late wife, Kylie, Lily has featured on the series since she was born in 2013. Having been played by actor Brooke Malonie since 2016, the girl will now be portrayed by Grace Ashcroft-Gardner.
The recast comes after Lily went quietly offscreen in recent weeks. Upon her return, which is set for today’s episode (14 July), she and her cousin Sam Blakeman will be taking centre stage in a dramatic subplot.
The two kids will be part of a storyline involving Mick Michaelis and his escape from prison.
After killing Craig Tinker, Mick will cement his villain status in upcoming scenes. In a tense episode, the inmate takes Weatherfield High under siege as he goes looking for his daughter, Joanie.

Sam will be left particularly traumatised by the ordeal, with Nick Tilsley fearing the violent incident would bring back painful memories of Sam’s mum’s murder.
As Sam refuses to open up about the ordeal, Nick speaks to Hope Dobbs, who reveals that Lily took refuge in a classroom for safety. However, she was so scared she refused to let her cousin in, leaving him to fend for himself.
