A Coronation Street legend has revealed which two characters she thinks should make a return to the ITV soap over Christmas.

Sally Dynevor, who has starred as Sally Metcalfe in the show for almost 40 years, spoke to The Mirror about the family members she’d love to see sat around the dining table over the festive period.

“It’s a very different show now to the show I started in. It’s a much bigger cast, but I still love it and I still get excited,” she said, speaking about how much Corrie has changed since she joined in 1986.

She then addressed the possible return of her daughters Rosie and Sophie Webster, previously played by Helen Flanagan and Brooke Vincent.

“I’ve always wanted them to come back, so I’d be thrilled,” Sally continued. “It would be great if they came back at Christmas, even if it’s just for Christmas Day – just to have them around the table again would be wonderful. So, I’m hoping that might happen, you never know.”

Rosie left the soap in 2018 when actor Helen went on maternity leave, but has not returned to the cobbles since. Sophie actor Brooke exited the following year, also heading on maternity leave.

In May, Helen shared her desire to return to the iconic role, telling The Sun: “I can’t say too much, but it could be possible that I could go back.

“I get on with everyone there. There’s nothing personal going on.”

She continued: “It changed my life so much and my loyalty is with them. I feel like Rosie’s a part of me.”

Months prior, Brooke also shared whether or not she’d be keen to return to Corrie: “I think I would, I think now the kids are a little bit older and they’re going to start school. I’d love to go back” (per Naughty Corner podcast).

She added to OK! magazine: “Corrie for me will always be home, but Corrie’s ongoing – it’s forever there. So for me, smaller projects will be doable because they have a start and an end date.

“The hard thing about Corrie was that the hours aren’t a normal nine-to-five, or you couldn’t go part-time, or you couldn’t start after 10am.

“There was physically no way that I could do it without having a nanny. And there’s Kean’s football as well. I didn’t want the pressure of making those decisions when I didn’t know how I was going to feel.”
