Baffled Coronation Street fans have been left asking ‘what did you do’ as they issued a demand for a resident to be ‘saved’ after a brutal attack.

It’s been revealed by the ITV soap that Gary Windass will be left fighting for his life after being targeted by a currently unknown assailant.

The character, played by Mikey North, was last seen in Weatherfield earlier this month amid rising tensions between him and his wife, Maria.

His exit came after she was arrested for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH)m having got into a scuffle with Lou Michaelis during a gathering hosted by Shona and David Platt at No.8 Coronation Street.

Thing then continued to get worse for Maria as she faced pushing Gary away by accusing him of having an affair, after he was seen supporting Lou in what he thought was her hour of need.

After leaving for his mum’s, Gary has not been in touch since, leading stepson Liam Connor to worry about him as seen during Wednesday’s (June 25) Corrie.

Maria tried to quash her son’s concerns that she and Gary had split and he was gone for good, but it’s clear the hairdresser is just as worried about her husband’s whereabouts.

During Friday’s episode (June 27) of Corrie, viewers will see Gary lying unconscious in a hospital bed, with his friends and family unaware of what has happened.

Her concern escalates when she reports Gary as a missing person to DC Kit Green and learns about an unidentified coma patient. Viewers will learn the extent his attacker has taken to cover their tracks by fraudulently claiming to be his next of kin.

Upcoming episodes will delve into the events that led to his admission to hospital and uncover secrets, revealing the identity of those involved. But fans are speculating already that it will involve Nina Lucas and Summer Spellman in some way after they have been keeping the secret that they left ‘someone for dead’ while on an LSD trip.
