The hit 9-1-1: Lone Star is coming to an end, but it looks like another 9-1-1

spinoff series is taking its place. A new 9-1-1 spinoff is reportedly

in the works, with a tentative location yet to be revealed.

According to Deadline, a second 9-1-1 spinoff series is being developed by ABC from Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear. Hawaii has reportedly emerged as a possible setting for the planned new show. Las Vegas was previously rumored to be a contender for the spinoff, but the focus is now said to be primarily on the Aloha State. However, the project has yet to be officially greenlit, and ABC has yet to comment on the news.

Hawaii is an interesting choice, as it was the setting for another spinoff series of the recently canceled series. After three seasons, NCIS: Hawaii was canceled by CBS, airing its final episode this past May. However, it is a new location for the 9-1-1 universe. 9-1-1: Lone Star is set in Austin, Texas, while the original 9-1-1 took place in Los Angeles, California. ABC is now the home of the original 9-1-1 after the previous series was canceled by Fox. Lone Star is not expected to continue airing on ABC, as the focus is reportedly on developing its next spinoff series.

9-1-1: Lone Star ends with Season 5 Lone Star was in a bubble for a while before it was officially canceled, although the cast and crew were expecting the end to come. Co-showrunner Rashad Raisani previously confirmed that the fifth season was written in such a way that it could serve as the series’ finale, as it seems unlikely that Season 6 will happen. This allows the characters to have a satisfying ending when the final episode airs.

“It’s hard, but my feeling has always been, I want to end this series in a way that gives you a great sense of journey and closure with these characters—but doesn’t necessarily mean that it can’t have new life, if by a stroke of luck, that can happen,” she told Variety. “But I want it to be, just in case, and assuming that it’s going to be our last episode, I really want us to give that last episode so that people feel like, ‘Okay, I got to know these people and I feel like I’m leaving these people in a better place, where I’ve seen them grow.’” 9-1-1 is in the middle of its eighth season on ABC. Following first responders in L.A., the series stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Olisver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Guzman. 9-1-1: Lone Star also follows first responders in the Lone Star State, starring Rob LLowe, Ronen Rubinstein, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael L. Silva, Julian Works, Gina Torres, Brianna Baker, Skyler Yates and Jackson Pace. Both shows were created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.
