9-1-1 Can Finally Get Back on Track After Fixing the Worst Parts of Season 8

in Just One Episode 9-1-1 season 8 finally put one of its most frustrating storylines

in the past, meaning the series can finally get back on track and return to its former

glory. The ABC procedural drama created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear released its eighth season (and second season on ABC) in late September 2024. 9-1-1 season 8 debuted with a bee-nado, and in the first few episodes, it was clear that something was wrong. More specifically, some of the characters weren’t in their proper places.

ABC has not confirmed the episode count for 9-1-1 season 8 as of this writing, but it is expected to be a full season, meaning it will likely consist of around 18 episodes (based on previous seasons).

9-1-1 season 7 ended with Bobby Nash surviving a heart attack (one episode after resigning from Station 118). Despite being on the brink of death, there was no indication that Bobby would continue his role as captain of 118 as his replacement was already appointed — Vincent Gerrard. His appointment as captain was the worst-case scenario, and unfortunately, the consequences of this development played out at the beginning of 9-1-1 season 8. However, episode 4 corrected the show’s mistakes and moving forward, 9-1-1 could be the success everyone knew it to be.

Gerrard left Station 118 in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 4 after Bobby told him that he only got the job because Councilwoman Olivia Ortiz wanted to sabotage the fire station (and eventually close it due to “budgetary issues”). Although Gerrard was a terrible person, he didn’t like being bothered. So Gerrard donned a body cam (a rule Ortiz imposed on firefighters as punishment) and recorded the councilwoman discussing her master plan to destroy 118. The fire station was saved from imminent closure, Bobby returned as captain, and Gerrard took over as Bobby’s technical advisor in Hotshots.
