One of the most anticipated new movies to come out this summer would
have to be It Ends With Us. The film, which was adapted from the novel of the same name
written by Colleen Hoover, has been on the radar for movie lovers (and book lovers) for quite some time now.
The book itself has taken over #booktok and #bookstagram on social media—something that Alex Drummond even got behind previously. The only thing that has made this movie all the
more exciting has been the casting updates. Some very familiar actors and actresses have been taking the lead roles of these already well-known characters. For starters, fans of the Yellowstone prequel 1923 will be thrilled to learn that one familiar face from the franchise will be appearing in the film.
If you haven’t read it, the book follows Lily Bloom, a recent college grad and florist who falls for a brooding and abusive neurosurgeon, Ryle Kincaid. Lily is plagued by questions about her new flame, but the book’s drama really ramps up when Lily’s old boyfriend and first love, Atlas Corrigan, suddenly reappears in her life. In an interview with Publishers Weekly, Colleen addressed the book’s massive success. “It’s changed lives. Women have given this to friends who needed it.” So, put on the stovetop popcorn because here’s everything you need to know about the It Ends With Us movie and cast.
Blake Lively as Lily Bloom
In a video for the initial cast announcement, Colleen gushed, “Our Lily is going to be played by Blake Lively. Blake Lively, y’all! She’s my dream Lily.” You probably recognize Blake from the TV show Gossip Girl, or movies like A Simple Favor and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Despite Colleen’s excitement over casting, fans have been worried about the age disparity between the book character, who is 23, and Lively, who is 35. The actor playing Ryle is also in his late 30s, so there’s a chance the adaption will be taking some liberties.
Justin Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid
Justin Baldoni, who played Rafael Solano in The CW’s Jane the Virgin, will star opposite Lively as Ryle Kincaid! The actor and director reposted Hoover’s video with the caption, “Here we go!!!!” We actually have Baldoni to thank for the adaption in the first place—way back in 2019, Baldoni announced that he was developing the movie with his production company!
Brandon Sklenar as Atlas Corrigan
Big news for 1923 fans! Brandon Sklenar—who many know as Spencer Dutton from the Yellowstone spinoff—currently has the role of Atlas Corrigan, Deadline confirmed. We won’t spoil anything for those who haven’t read the book, but we’ll just say this is good news. 😉 He plays a dreamboat on the Western-series, so it’s not hard to understand why he got this role.
Jenny Slate as Allysa
Say hello to Ryle’s sister, Allysa. Jenny Slate will be embodying the role of the rather peculiar character. Though, given her acting resumé, this is surely a role that she’ll know how to take on. You might remember her face from the Oscar-award winning movie, Everything, Everywhere, All at Once as well as her stint on Parks & Recreation.
Hasan Minhaj as Marshall
Hasan Minhaj is Marshall, everyone! Those who know Minhaj are familiar with his comedy work in Homecoming King and The King’s Jester. The character he plays in It Ends With Us will be a bit different for him (Marshall is Ryle’s long time best friend). But knowing how witty Minhaj is, he’ll definitely make this role his own.
