Virgin River is the ultimate comfort show. Heartwarming plots,
from Mel and Jack’s romance to Lizzie and Hope’s friendship, made it so.
Few other shows are as much of a comfort watch as Netflix’s Virgin River.
Melinda Monroe immediately captured hearts with her soulful story and the desire for a fresh start in life when she moved to the idyllic town from LA, and Virgin River has since delivered many such heartwarming storylines. Exploring themes of loss, grief, death, romance, new life, and happiness, the show has always has an uplifting plotline to offer viewers.
What set Virgin River apart from other shows was that the show always depicted the unexpected in beautiful ways. It provided representation to senior love, chosen families, and unusual stories of human interest that are rarely found otherwise. These were the most bright, hopeful, and joyous plots on Virgin River.
Mel’s Second Chance at Love With Jack Was Hopeful
Mel and Jack were undoubtedly the best characters in Virgin River and the main focus of the show. Mel had suffered immense grief and loss in LA, dealing with the death of her husband and a miscarriage. When she moved to Virgin River, she never expected to find love, but the fates had other intentions for he
Jack was immediately attracted to Mel, but more importantly, he wanted to help her heal. They were soulmates who found each other long after they expected, proving that life can be unexpected and beautiful even when people least expect it. Their love was pure, and fans loved to see their flirtationship turn into a proposal and planning for a family.
Hope and Doc’s Love Story Was a Great Representation of Senior Love
Romance was an integral part of Virgin River, and Hope and Doc’s love story was another relationship that added depth and charm to the show. Hope and Doc’s bond was confusing at the beginning of the show, but it soon became clear that they used to be married. They were separated in Season 1 but stayed friends.
Doc had betrayed Hope when he cheated on her, but Virgin River showed a beautiful arc of reconciliation and a second chance at love. Both of them were treated like whole, complete people who still had desires and needs, just like anyone else. Their senior romance was one of the best parts of the show.
Denny’s Reunion With Doc Was Bittersweet but Important
Doc had a spotty history of infidelity, but he got a shock himself when Denny turned up in Virgin River. A long-forgotten fling with Rose and Doc had led to the birth of Doc’s son, Ryan, but Rose hadn’t told Doc about him. Denny was Ryan’s son and also suffered from Huntington’s Disease like his father.
At first, Denny’s entrance seemed suspicious since he was sneaking around Doc’s clinic and medication, but it was soon revealed that he had good intentions. It was very sweet to see Doc meet the family he never knew he had, and Hope’s support of Doc’s new life and family members was heartwarming.
Ricky Following His Dreams Was Different but Refreshing
Young Ricky was a beloved resident of Virgin River, but his arc went beyond the small town and his romance with Lizzie. He found his first love in her but had a dream to go be a part of the Marines, like Jack. His approach toward getting into training might not have been the best, as he never informed Lizzie of his plans.
However, Ricky was a young man who saw beyond the confines of the town. He chased his dreams with single-minded dedication, which was a refreshing twist in Virgin River’s tale. Even if it means that Ricky may be missing in action from the show, his character development will be greater for following his ambitions.
Cam and Muriel’s Romance Was the Age-Gap Romance Everyone Needed
Virgin River is known for representing all types of love. Cam and Muriel’s romance was a total surprise on the show but not an unwelcome one. Muriel had long taken care of Doc, Hope, and other members of the town but seldom been a recipient of love herself. Cam, while much younger than Muriel, recognized the kindness and the warmth in her heart.
Their relationship has the potential to be one of the best on Virgin River, but it is still early days. Since they work together, there is a possibility of their relationship suffering because of it. However, seeing them choose love and fight the good fight against external forces was the best part of the show.Preacher Stepping Up for Paige and Christopher Showed His Innate Kindness
From the start, it was clear that Preacher was an honorable man. He put others’ needs before his own in his friendships and business partnerships, but the kindness he showed to Paige and Christopher was of a different level. Preacher loved Paige, but they could never really be together because of her abusive husband. When Wes was killed by accident in a tussle with Paige, Preacher stepped up for her.
