They don’t get much screen time, but Chicago Fire fans adore them more than some of the main cast.
10. Benjamin Severide While not exactly the most morally perfect character, Benny Severide was definitely a memorable one. Chief Boden’s former colleague and a legendary firefighter, he was a terrible family guy at best — and yet fans couldn’t help but want more of him on the screen… That’s not Benny’s achievement as much as late Treat Williams’.
9. Erik McAuley Another massive charmer, Erik McAuley is primarily known as the one paramedic who managed to piss off everyone in Firehouse 51. His condescending remarks and annoying attitude might have been infuriating for his on-screen colleagues, but many fans genuinely loved the man for his classic Debby Downer personality.
8. Tom Van Meter While being a pretty insignificant character previously, the OFI boss Tom Van Meter rose to prominence during Taylor Kinney’s leave of absence: when no one knew whether the actor would return, Van Meter was supposed to replace Kelly Severide if Kinney leaves for good. Ironic, considering how Van Meter wants Kelly on his team.
7. Seth Pryma Despite his very limited screen time, there’s something inherently charming about Pryma that endeared many fans to him. This Narcotics Division detective dealt with the attempt on Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd’s lives, having been previously involved with Kelly due to Thomas Campbell’s drug operations. Pryma is just cool.
6. Kylie Estevez In most fans’ eyes, Kylie is more of a token character: after all, she was Stella Kidd’s first Girls on Fire recruit. But thanks to Kylie’s good vibes, they still remember her time as Chief Boden’s assistant fondly — and the fact that Kylie is a proficient and dedicated firefighter who earned personal praise from Kidd only adds her cool points.
5. Trudy Platt-McHolland Before you rush in to say that Trudy is from Chicago PD, trust us — we know that. But despite that, Trudy’s appearances in Chicago Fire are very special to many fans, especially thanks to her great chemistry with her husband Mouch. Due to her not being the Big Scary Sergeant in Fire, she really shines as a person in this TV show.
4. Evan Hawkins In fans’ books, Hawkins has quite a number of achievements. From (obviously) being one of the most beloved characters with criminally little screen time to having one of the most tragic deaths in Chicago Fire, Hawkins left a lasting impression on everyone, most of all, poor Violet who had to bury him after just starting being happy.
3. Darren Ritter Ritter opens our Top 3 for a plethora of reasons. His caring and charming personality made him a fan favorite, and his student-mentor relationship with Mouch and Herrmann feels warm and cozy. Ritter is supportive and positive, and getting him to Firehouse 51 when he wanted to quit the profession was a great catch by Mouch.
2. Harold Capp We had to scratch our head for a while to decide in which order to place the twins and ultimately settled on this. Capp and Tony are the only two original recurring characters who are still around, and that’s great because they are very obviously absolute fan favorites. We don’t even need to list why everyone loves them, do we?
1. Tony Ferraris You might be wondering why Tony ranks higher than Capp on our list, and we have to admit that there was a meta reason for such a placement. Apart from being a joy just like Capp, Tony is also portrayed by a real-life firefighter Anthony Ferraris — and we think that a beloved character portrayed by an actual hero deserves the #1 spot.
